25th Anniverary Exhibiton
8 March through 26 April 2002
Artist reception: 3 March 7-9PM
25 years ago, my late partner, Iris Silverman and I embarked upon a great adventure that was to consume our lives. I decided that the funky dress shop, “Alice’s” between Nicholas Wilder Gallery and James Corcoran Gallery would be an ideal location for Baum – Silverman Gallery. The fates were with us as the sign in the window read “For Lease” – and our future was sealed. Tragically, as you know, Iris died September 1980 but now without making her mark in the world of tribal art; but more importantly, the gallery was to define her life. As for me, it has been a love affair from the start. I have learned to resolve difficulties with dispatch and turn my attention to what I love – the “Art”, such art that is visionary, magical, inventive, alchemical, poetic, powerful, dramatic, innovative, and more. To mark this occasion, the gallery will stage a 25th anniversary show – 8 March – 26 April 2002. March 15th is the exact anniversary date – The Ides of March – not good for Caesar but just fine for Jan Baum.
